Gretole

A Ruffino estate in the Chianti Classico area

Gretole

The Territory of
Chianti Classico

Between Castellina in Chianti and Poggibonsi, in the heart of the Chianti Classico DOCG area lies the Gretole Estate, nested in a landscape of vast vineyards.

The character of Gretole comes from nature. Here the soil is characterised by an abundant presence of galestro, the typical greyish rock of Chianti Classico.

The Chianti Classico area contains the soul of Ruffino. More than 100 years of research, of studies, and of hard work on this land have given the men and women of Ruffino an intuitive, almost innate understanding of its many, unique characteristics.

This understanding has brought Ruffino to create one of the most important production centres for the wine Riserva Ducale Oro, the winery's flagship, near Castellina, at Gretole Estate.

New technology in the cellars of Gretole:

For the 2006 harvest Ruffino's enologists have started experimenting with a new type of vinification tanks where the fermentation takes place under a light pressure which alters the natural atmosphere within the tank. Under this pressure, the skins of the grapes do not form a cap on top of the most - they "swim" around in it, guaranteeing an efficient and absolutely natural extraction of colour, tannins etc - all the important elements deriving from the skins
