In the territory of Montepulciano, the Lodola Nuova Estate stretches on almost 90 hectares of vineyards, devided in 3 vineyard blocks: Lodola Nuova, Greppo, and Matracchio.
The vineyards of Lodola Nuova and Matracchio are characterized by a medium altitude, a rather calcareous soil with a medium presence of limestone and clay. Here Prugnolo Gentile is the predominant grape variety. The vineyards of Greppo are situated at a lower altitude and the soil is more clayey, making this area more suitable for the cultivation of Merlot.
Lodola Nuova also has a vineyard planted with Syrah in the territory of Cortona, which is widely recognized as an ideal growing area for this intriguing variety.
At Il Greppo the vineyards are positioned at a lower altitude and the soil is richer in clay. This is a perfect environment for growing Merlot.
During the last years Ruffino has invested much in researching the soil and the microclimate at Lodola Nuova. These efforts have brought to the replanting of a good part of the pre-existing vineyards in order to obtain grapes of the finest quality for the estate wines.
Understanding and enhancing the unique characteristics of the territories where we are present is a key element in Ruffino's production philosophy.
Only by choosing the right varieties for the right locations are we able to produce wines with personality and with a strong territorial character. |
