Ruffino has once again lead the way with the creation of a new star: Lodola Nuova Syrah Cortona DOC, from vineyards cultivated in the Cortona DOC area.
After 3 red wines based on Prugnolo Gentile, the family of Lodola Nuova has been enriched with a new wine, produced from a variety just as fascinating and noble as the Prugnolo, the Syrah.

Striving to produce wines melding innovation and tradition, Ruffino decided to embark on a new adventure a few year ago. The challenge was to create a new, Tuscan Syrah wine - a wine characterized by elegance, smoothness and aromatic finesse.
The Syrah, which has made world famous the wines from Rhone in France, has in recent years found a new homeland in Cortona, a territory where it expresses itself in new, original ways. In only a few years Cortona has become renowned as one of the best production areas for this noble, French variety. The appellation of the area is called Cortona DOC.
The Syrah Cortona DOC from Lodola Nuova is produced in this extraordinary soil, where the grape expresses its lush quality to the fullest. Here, the soil and microclimatic characteristics have inspired Ruffino's young and enthusiastic winemaking team, which includes renowned winemaker Carlo Ferrini, to create a fascinating, velvely and persistent red wine. A mysterious, enticing lady clothed in black velvet, thriving under the Tuscan sun.
According to Carlo Ferrini, the winemaker in charge of the the creation of the Syrah, the special character of the Lodola Nuova Syrah Cortona DOC stems directly from the special character of the Cortona territory. Deep, fresh, clayey soil, an altitude of 350 metres a.s.l., a hot, dry climate and - last but not least - a considerable day-night temperature swing.
These characteristics are similar to those of the northern part of Rhone, where some of the world's most classic Syrahs are produced. Characteristics which allow the vintner to add elegance, finesse and fragrance to the full-bodied and muscular Syrah.
In the glass the result is stunning: the wine is subtle, yet full-bodied, gracefull and velvety, intense, aromatic and complex. Thick, yet well-balanced, opulent yet refined.
The Lodola Nuova Syrah Cortona DOC perfectly expresses Ruffino's desire to innovate with new, interesting varieties, putting the quality potential of a new Tuscan wine producing area to the test.
