Grapes from the best-known regions of Chianti are used to make our Chianti DOCG. Fermentation is aided by racking and punch-downs in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. Our Chianti DOCG is then aged for four months in stainless steel and concrete vats.
Chianti DOCG occupies a special place in the heart - and history - of Ruffino. When Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino founded the winery in 1877, the first wine they produced was a Chianti. A minimum of 70% Sangiovese plus other red varietals admitted by DOCG codes of production such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chianti DOCG grapes are sourced from vineyards in the best-known winegrowing areas of the Chianti appellation.
The alcoholic fermentation, aided by racking and punching down, continued for about two weeks at an average temperature of 79°F (26°C) in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. The wine was then further aged for four months before bottling.
